Free Weights and Freedom Memorial Day Murph Fundraiser

Free Weights and Freedom in conjunction with Crossfit Viral, CrossFit Vise, CrossFit Elkhorn, DTO CrossFit, CrossFit Millard, CrossFit Council Bluffs, and Artis Strength and Fitness is excited to announce a community Memorial Day Murph event!

We encourage and invite all Omaha and Council Bluffs Crossfit Boxes to be part of this event to bring about community and fitness that will benefit Free Weights and Freedom a local Veteran non-profit organization. There will be no charge to participate, but if you are inclined we will accept free will donations that will go directly to Free Weights and Freedom and our Respond Stronger Grant Program.

Free Weights and Freedom provides a holistic fitness and wellness program for First Responders and their spouses to help them recognize, address, and overcome stress related issues. On 22 January 2019 our organization awarded 8 fitness and wellness grants to active First Responders and their spouses. These grants provided each recipient with a 12 month paid in full membership to a gym of their choice.

Memorial Day Murph was created in 2014 in honor of Navy Lt. Michael Murphy, a SEAL who died in Afghanistan in 2005 in a battle with the Taliban, which later became famous in the Mark Wahlberg movie “Lone Survivor.”

Murph is an adaptable and scalable workout as follows.

1 mile run (walk, relay)
100 pull-ups (jumping pull-ups, ring rows)
200 push-ups (knee push-ups, plank)
300 air squats
1 mile run (walk, relay)

We are also hosting an after party to show our appreciation to donors and honor our local First Responders at Maloney's Irish Pub on Saturday 25 May 2019 at 7PM. There will be live music and snacks available.
