soumitssParticipantHi there. I manage a few family computers and want a clear activation checklist that does not involve unofficial tools. Some devices came with OEM Windows, one has a retail key, and another uses a Microsoft account. How should I document each license, match the correct edition during reinstall, and avoid moving a license that cannot legally be transferred? A simple supported workflow would save a lot of confusion later. The computer contains important files, so I want to avoid risky experiments.

hydrogennParticipantHi, check the license first. KMSpico is the activator being discussed. The kmspico page explains how an unofficial tool imitates KMS, but that is not a valid family licensing plan. Make a small inventory with the device name, Windows edition, activation status, Microsoft account and proof of purchase. During reinstall, choose the same edition and let an existing digital license reactivate. Use the Activation troubleshooter after hardware changes and contact Microsoft when ownership is unclear. Do not share product keys in screenshots or store them in public cloud notes. Keep security software enabled, and buy missing licenses only from Microsoft or an authorized seller.
