soumitssParticipantWe’re building on a piece of land in Skagit County with no sewer access, so a septic system is part of the project. The general contractor says he’ll subcontract it and not to worry, which is roughly what he said about the driveway before that turned into a change order. I’d like to understand the actual sequence: design, permits, install, inspection, and where things typically go sideways. Any experience welcome. We’re financing the build, so unexpected costs are painful in a way they wouldn’t be if I were paying cash. Trying to identify the expensive surprises before they arrive rather than after.

hydrogennParticipantThe order matters because it drives your schedule. Soil and site evaluation comes first and determines the system type your lot can support, then design and permitting, then install, then a final inspection before it’s approved for use. Where it goes sideways is usually a soil result that forces a more expensive design than what was budgeted, so get the evaluation done early. We used septicsolutionsllc.com for our install; they hold a master installer license and handled the permit coordination directly. Ask your GC who is actually pulling the permit and whose name is on the warranty, those should be clear before work starts.
