I’m going to be honest, I’ve been putting this off for way too long because the whole process just feels like too much to handle. I got hurt at work about nine months ago, a back injury that’s left me unable to do my job and pretty much housebound most days. I’ve been dealing with the insurance company on my own and it’s been a nightmare of missed calls, denied treatments, and letters I can barely understand. Everyone keeps telling me I need to get a lawyer, but the thought of calling around and explaining my story to a bunch of strangers while I’m already exhausted and in pain just feels overwhelming. I don’t even know what questions to ask or how to tell if someone knows what they’re doing. I guess I’m looking for some practical advice from people who’ve been through this. How did you find your lawyer? Did you just pick the first one that came up in a search or did you do something more? I’ve been looking at a workers compensation law firm New York online but there are so many and they all say they’re the best and I don’t know how to separate the good ones from the ones that just want to churn through cases. I know I need to do this, I just need a little guidance on how to take that first step without feeling like I’m drowning even more than I already am. Any tips would be really appreciated.
