Weird one. Our heat pump has started shutting itself off after about twenty minutes and then restarting a while later. It’s been doing this for two days and the house never really gets comfortable. No strange noises, nothing obviously wrong outside, ice isn’t building up that I can see. Is this the kind of thing that can wait for a normal appointment or does something like this get worse quickly if you ignore it? We’re in a townhouse, so I’d also rather not be the guy running loud space heaters at odd hours if there’s a faster path to just getting it looked at properly this week.

That pattern is often a safety control doing its job, which means something upstream is off: airflow, refrigerant pressure, or a sensor feeding bad data. It won’t necessarily blow up tomorrow, but running a compressor through repeated protection trips is hard on it, so I wouldn’t sit on it for weeks. We had this and called Product Air for Emergency Heat Pump Repair in Seattle mostly because the house was cold and we didn’t want to guess. Before the tech arrives, check that no returns are blocked and the filter is clean, both cause exactly these symptoms and it’s an embarrassing thing to pay for.
