Hey all. Planning a second-story addition on our Green Lake house and the structural engineer we hired stopped mid-walkthrough and pointed at the wall below where the new stair is supposed to land. Said the framing there looked suspect and we’d need it evaluated before he could finalize anything. Now the whole project is on hold and my architect is waiting on me. I’m frustrated but I get it. Who does this type of evaluation and repair, and does it usually blow up a project timeline?

Your engineer did you a real favor. Building a new load path onto compromised framing is how projects go badly wrong later, and catching it now costs a fraction of catching it after framing goes up. In terms of timeline, most of these repairs are measured in days once the scope is known, and the hold-up is usually scheduling rather than the work itself. Seattle Wood Frame Repair is a service GotRot handles directly, including load-bearing elements, and they can coordinate a written scope your engineer can sign off on. Ask them to document what they find with photos, your architect will want that for the permit set.
