Hi. We just bought a 1960s rambler in Burien and the siding looks okay from the street, but I’ve heard older houses often hide rot. Inspector said the house looks fine, but he didn’t pull any boards. Should I get an inspection of the siding even if nothing looks wrong?

Hi. The report they gave us is now in our home folder for future reference. Honestly, yes, especially on older houses in our climate, rot often starts behind the siding. We had GotRot do an inspection alongside Seattle Siding Repair on our 1958 house in White Center. They probed boards, checked around windows and doors and looked at the sill plate area. They found two small problem spots that would have become big ones in a few years. Fixing them early was cheap. Honestly, the worst places are usually under windows and at the bottom of walls. It’s peace of mind for a new house.
