Welcome to the second annual War of the Ouachitas!

This is a combination strongman competition and fundraiser for the Mount Ida High School football program. I am the oldest of four brothers, and we have all played football for Mount Ida. Spectator entry fees and all voluntary donations will be given to the Mount Ida Football Team. GO LIONS!!!

PRONUNCIATION: Ouachitas - WASH-ih-tahs

LOCATION: Mount Ida, AR

VENUE: Lions Stadium at Mount Ida High School

WEIGH-INS: TBD

SPECTATOR TICKETS: TBD

2027 USS Membership is required

The overall competition will be Events 1-5 and class winners will be determined through those events.

Event 6 is a SUPER YOKE BOUNTY EVENT! Complete the heavy yoke run and win the bounty! If you feel ready, give it a shot! This is NOT required for the overall competition. 600LB for women, 1000LB for men!

Note: All event weights are subject to adjustment both prior to competition and on comp day as needed. I will try to keep changes to a minimum.

Note: Any equipment not listed in the "Equipment Allowed" sections are forbidden even if it is not specifically listed in the "Equipment NOT Allowed" sections. If you have a question, ask it!

Event 1: Max Tire Deadlift

  • On judge's "lift" command, lift the bar to lockout and wait for the "down" signal for a good lift
  • Good lockout and "down" signal is given once knees are straight and hips are through
  • 3 attempts max per competitor
  • 30 second time limit per attempt after strapping in. Judge will give "lift" command once athlete is strapped in and ready.
  • Deadlift is raw with normal or figure 8 straps.
  • Deadlift pull height is TBD but likely between 13-18 inches
  • Bar used will be a power bar
  • No sumo deadlifts allowed (hands outside feet at all times)
  • No suits or briefs allowed
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves or wraps, figure 6 or figure 8 straps, chalk
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, tacky, anything else sticky, baby oil or baby powder

Event 2: Log Clean and Press For Reps

  • On judge's "go" command, start lifting!
  • 60 second time limit
  • Both logs are metal. Women's log is 10 inch diameter. Men's log is 12 inch diameter.
  • Clean the log, press the log overhead, wait for the down signal, drop the log back to the pads, and go again
  • You must clean the log for every rep
  • You may strict press, push press, viper press, push jerk, or split jerk. Judges will give a "down" signal once the log is locked out overhead under control, head is through, and feet are together (not still split for a jerk)
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, USS approved grip shirts, chalk
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky

Event 3: Sandbag Throw Over Goal Post for Max Distance

  • At judge's "go" command, pick up sandbag and throw it over the goal post crossbar (10ft high)
  • Distance markers will be set at one-yard increments from the goal post. Farthest distance marker you successfully clear the goal post from will be your score.
  • Your toes must be in front of the distance marker for your throw. Stepping / falling backward after the throw won't be deducted.
  • Any throw technique is allowed. Both hands allowed.
  • Three sandbags will be available (all same weight). You may start throwing from your choice of starting distance. If you hit all your first three throws or only miss once, sandbags will be returned to you for more throw attempts.
  • 20 seconds per throw, unlimited throws/time until you miss twice.
  • Upon second miss, your farthest successful throw distance marker will be your score.
  • Example: 1st throw good 4-yards, 2nd throw miss 5-yards, 3rd throw good 5-yards, 4th throw miss 6-yards. Final score is 5 yards.
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky

Event 4: Keg Loading Race

  • Four kegs in ascending weight loaded onto platform (height TBD, likely 48-52 inches)
  • Kegs will be set 20ft, 15ft, 10ft, and 5ft away from the platform, lightest to heaviest
  • Fastest time to load wins. Times are taken once hands are off. Split times at each keg will be taken.
  • Kegs do not need to stand up on platform but must stay on platform after hands-off
  • 75 second time limit
  • Unlimited drops
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk, gloves
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky

Event 5: Vehicle Pull / School Bus Pull

That's right! We've got a school bus!

  • On judge's "go" command, start pulling!
  • Athlete will be harnessed to the vehicle behind and will have a rope to pull with in front.
  • Distance TBD
  • 60 second time limit
  • Time stops once the vehicle crosses the finish line or comes to a complete stop. The course is not done once the athlete crosses the line. The vehicle has to cross the line.
  • If course is not completed, a distance measurement will be taken.
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves or wraps, wrist wraps, chalk, gloves
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, straps, tacky, anything else sticky

BOUNTY EVENT: SUPER YOKE

This event is NOT FOR THE OVERALL COMPETITION. This is just for fun and to give an excuse for athletes to attempt a super heavy yoke! Complete the course and receive a share of the money pot bounty!

  • This event is EXTREMELY HEAVY. Yoke weights will be 600LB for women and 1000LB for men. These will not be adjusted for classes.
  • Only athletes who feel ready may attempt the super yoke. If you are not comfortable attempting the event, then don't attempt the event. This is not for everybody and is not required for anybody. This is a bonus event for fun and is not used in the overall competition results.
  • 20ft distance, one-way only
  • 30 second time limit
  • Unlimited drops
  • No sliding allowed. 5 second time penalty for sliding. Implement must be carried over the finish line to complete the course. Implement front edge must pass the line within 30 seconds including any penalties to qualify for the pot
  • Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves or wraps, wrist wraps, grip shirts, chalk, anything else you think you need
  • Equipment NOT Allowed: Hydraulic jacks, cranes, forklifts, other machinery
