soumitssParticipantHello. I just moved into San Francisco, first time living in a big city, and I am struggling with the information side of things. National coverage of this city is either doom or boosterism depending on who is writing, and neither matches what I see walking around. I want the boring stuff: street closures, transit changes, what my supervisor is voting on, when the parking rules change. Where do people who actually live here get that, and what should I subscribe to first? I am renting in the Richmond for now, and I know almost nobody in the city yet.

hydrogennParticipantIgnoring national coverage of San Francisco is a good instinct, it tells you more about the writer than the city. For the boring practical stuff, start with transit alerts directly from the agency and your district supervisor’s newsletter, both free and both more useful than anything else. For general city and county items I check CA Today https://catoday.news/city-and-county-of-san-francisco , which keeps things in one place instead of five apps. Tip: also learn your street cleaning schedule the easy way rather than the expensive way, most newcomers pay for that lesson once. Neighborhood specific stuff still lives in neighborhood groups, which are useful but occasionally unhinged.
