Please get in touch with the host to register.

The Second Annual StrongforStrays is a United States Strongman Nationals qualifier as well as a fund-raising event for The Hub City Humane Society. The first iteration of StrongforStrays was held at our home-base, Hub City Barbell Club, and hosted 15 competitors. This go around, we are moving to a larger venue to have a higher competitor cap and running the fundraiser as part of a United States Strongman sanctioned event with proceeds going to The Hub City Humane Society. This will also be an adoption event - Hub City Humane Society will be present with adoptable dogs for families who want to bring home a beloved furry friend.

Weigh Ins/Rules/Reminders:

Weigh ins will be April 11th from 8AM - 11AM and 3PM - 6PM at Hub City Barbell Club located at 48 Liberty Place, Hattiesburg, MS 39402.  Limited weigh ins will be available April 12th at 8AM at the venue by appointment only. Rules will be at 8:30AM the morning of the event. Attendance is not mandatory, however you will be held to the letter of the rules whether you attended or not.

A current USS Membership is required for this event.

Weight classes with only one competitor will be combined with another class so make your friends sign up too if you compete in a less populated class and don't want to combine!

EVENTS:

1. Max 13" Deadlift

  • We will be using Texas Deadlift Bars
  • 3 attempts
  • Wessel's Rules, miss and you are out.
  • Rising bar with 10lb minimum jumps for women, 20lbs minimum jumps for men. MAKE SURE you give the judge and their scorekeeper your name before or after your attempt since this is a rising bar style event!
  • Athletes will receive a down command when they perform a complete lockout (ask if you have questions). Anyone who does not receive a down command or drops the bar before the command will not receive credit for the lift.
  • Equipment allowed: Suits, briefs, straps, one soft and one hard belt.

2. Dinnie Hold for Time

  • Time starts when the athlete fully lifts the rings and ends when any part of the implement touches the ground.
  • Wrist wraps, knee/elbow sleeves, chalk and belts are allowed.
  • NO straps of any kind, tacky of any kind.
  • We will be using Rogue Replica Dinnie Handles

3. Axle Clean and Press Away

  • Athletes will clean and press the axle for as many reps as possible within 60 seconds.
  • This is a PRESS AWAY event. Axle may be returned to the front rack and presses again WITHOUT returning the axle to the floor between reps.
  • If the axle is dropped to the floor, athlete may clean and press again.
  • Belt cleans are allowed.
  • Athletes must have knees, hips, shoulders, and elbows locked out before the head judge is allowed to give them the down command.
  • The competitor MUST wait for the down command or no rep will be given.
  • Athlete may start with hands on the Axle.
  • Pick will be from the floor from standard height. (*currently subject to change with a 13" pick being a possibility)
  • Athletes will be scored on maximum number of presses. Cleans only get no points by themselves.
  • Equipment allowed: Grip shirts, grip shorts, wrist and or knee wraps, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, elbow cuffs, one soft belt, one hard belt, and chalk.
  • Not allowed: tacky or anything sticky, wrist straps.

4. Max Distance Husafell Sandbag Carry

  • Upon the start command, athletes will pick the Husafell sandbag and begin their run.
  • Athletes will have 60 seconds to record the farthest distance they can cover around the course.
  • No drops allowed once your first steps are taken.
  • The "course" will be set up to mirror the historic sheep pen used for the Husafell stone in Iceland. Expect one full trip around to take approximately 115 feet.
  • Athletes will be scored by max distance covered.
  • Equipment Allowed: Chalk, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, soft belt, hard belt, grip shirts, nothing sticky

5. Head to Head Sandbag Load

  • Athlete will order from last place to 1st place with the lowest 2 current placings going first.
  • If an athlete fails to load the bag within their allotted time, the next athlete up will step in and perform their first rep.
  • Each athlete will have 20 seconds to load the bag over the bar with the ONLY exception being the last remaining athlete in each class.
  • Once there is one athlete left, that athlete must load back and forth from alternating sides of the yoke and will be allowed 25 seconds per rep to do so.
  • Load heights will be 44" for women and 48" for men.
  • Athletes will be scored on number of reps before they failed to load within their allotted time.
  • There will be a cap of 15 reps for "outliers." If multiple athletes hit 15, they will tie for first place in that event.
  • Equipment Allowed: Chalk, knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, soft belt, hard belt, grip shirts, nothing sticky

*Weight Matrix is subject to change while in the process of testing and consulting. The only other POTENTIAL change to these events is having the max distance sandbag carry be traditional sandbags due to equipment availability. Early sign-ups can make that more feasible for us though! *
