Welcome to the inaugural War of the Ouachitas!
This is a combination strongman competition and fundraiser for the Mount Ida High School football program. I am the oldest of four brothers, and we have all played football for Mount Ida. This is my way of giving a little back to the football program while also pushing the sport of strongman forward in Arkansas!
LOCATION: Mount Ida, AR
VENUE: Lions Stadium at Mount Ida High School
WEIGH-INS: TBD
SPECTATOR TICKETS: TBD
Note: All event weights are subject to adjustment both prior to competition and on comp day as needed. I will try to keep changes to a minimum.
Note: Any equipment not listed in the "Equipment Allowed" sections are forbidden even if it is not specifically listed in the "Equipment NOT Allowed" sections. If you have a question, ask it!
Event 1: Vehicle Arm-Over-Arm Pull
- On judge's "go" command, start pulling!
- Athlete will be sitting stationary to pull the vehicle arm-over-arm style with a rope. There will be a foot board to push from.
- Distance TBD
- 60 second time limit
- Time stops once vehicle crosses the finish line or comes to a complete stop.
- If course is not completed, a distance measurement will be taken.
- Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
- Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky
Event 2: Log Clean and Press Away
- On judge's "go" command, clean the log and start pressing!
- 60 second time limit
- Both logs are metal. Women's log is 10 inch diameter. Men's log is 12 inch diameter.
- Only one clean is required, then press the log overhead, get the down signal, touch your chest, and press again!
- You may drop the log to the pads and rest then re-clean to get more presses within the time limit
- You may strict press, push press, push jerk, or split jerk. Judges will give a "down" signal once the log is locked out overhead under control, head is through, and feet are together
- Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, USS approved grip shirts, chalk
- Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky
Event 3: Axle Deadlift for Reps
- On judge's "go" command, lift the axle to lockout, wait for the "down" signal, and hit another rep!
- Good lockout and "down" signal is given once knees are straight and hips are through
- Judges will give both a "down" AND an "up" command. No bouncing the axle at the bottom. Wait for the "up" command.
- 60 second time limit
- Deadlift is raw with straps from the floor. Standard plate height with no suit or briefs allowed.
- Foot covering is required. Barefoot is NOT allowed, but socks are. All shoes are allowed
- No sumo deadlifts allowed
- Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves or wraps, figure 6 or figure 8 straps, chalk
- Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, tacky, anything else sticky, baby oil or baby powder
Event 4: Tire Throw for Distance
- This is a throwback to early World's Strongest Man in 1977 and 1978!
- On judge's "go" command, throw the tire by any means necessary as far as you can (discus style, sandbag toss style, etc.)
- If a spin is used similar to a discus throw, only one full rotation is allowed (head can only pass straight ahead once). Do not get dizzy and throw into the spectators or judges.
- Tire weights TBD, but expect somewhere around 15-35LB for women and 30-50LB for men.
- 2 throws will be given. Once the first throw is marked, the tire will be returned immediately for your second throw.
- Best distance of the two throw attempts will be counted.
- Distance will be taken at the farthest point of first-landing impact at judge's discretion. No distance given for bounces or rolling.
- Distance will be measured from a set mark at the no-step line.
- Do not step over the no-step line while still holding the tire in the act of throwing. If you carry the tire over the line, the throw will be disallowed.
- Best efforts are expected to avoid stepping over the no-step line during your follow-through. It is judge's discretion to issue distance penalties for egregious faults, but this isn't the Olympics. (Be nice to your judges)
- Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, chalk
- Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky
Event 5: Max Distance Sandbag Carry
- At judge's "go" command, lift the sandbag and get moving!
- We are at a football field, so you have a LONG straight course to chew up! Start at one end zone and carry toward the other. If you make it to the opposite end zone, turn around and come back!
- Distance is taken once the sandbag is dropped. Only one drop is allowed, but there will be a five-feet grace zone at the start to reset if needed before moving.
- Front carry only. No shouldering the sandbag.
- Equipment Allowed: one hard and one soft belt, knee/elbow sleeves, USS approved grip shirts, chalk
- Equipment NOT Allowed: suits, briefs, knee wraps, straps, tacky, anything else sticky, anything to extend your arm reach
