Hey everyone, hoping to get some perspective or advice here.

I just received a formal legal notice in the mail from a firm called Owens & Ross, Attorneys at Law. It’s regarding an old debt that I believe might be past the statute of limitations or possibly not even mine. The letter looks official and has a local address, but I’m not sure how to proceed.

I’ve been doing some research and came across this page which explains that they might be involved in civil litigation for debts, but I’m still feeling pretty anxious about it.

Has anyone else here dealt with legal notices from Owens & Ross? I’m trying to figure out if this is something I should handle myself by verifying the claim and requesting validation, or if I absolutely need to hire an attorney right away. I really don’t want a default judgment against me, but I also don’t want to get scammed or pay something I don’t actually owe.

Any shared experiences or practical steps on how to respond to this would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
